Flashback to 2002: Karen Mulder’s debut single ‘I Am What I Am’

Her recent (and past) troubles aside, Karen Mulder’s vocals need to be applauded in the music video for her debut single, a cover of Gloria Gayner’s I Am What I Am. The single was released in mid 2002 and reportedly peaked at no #13 in France. I love that Mulder really belts out the notes as she tried to cross over from model to singer ala Carla Bruni.

“She has a beautiful voice and she just wants to sing,” a spokesperson for Mulder told Vogue.co.uk at the time. “She is working on her album at the moment and has a meeting with Sony on Thursday. She has also received countless film offers but for now it is all about the music.”
