The View From The Front Row: Celebrity Sightings Recap

We’ve been lucky enough to attend some of the most in-demand shows at New York Fashion Week and often – miraculously – found ourselves seated in or near that hagiographic region we call The Front Row. We thought you’d be interested in knowing who showed up for what, so here is our celebrity recap to date:

At Thursday’s Lorick show, we saw Peaches Geldof, Amanda Setton (Gossip Girl), and Margaret Colin (Gossip Girl).

Friday – officially Day One of Fashion Week – was more prolific in its celebrity pull: BCBG Max Azria drew Leigh Lezark, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Alexandra Richards (Keith’s daughter), and the almighty Anna Wintour & The Voguettes. At Yigal Azrouël, People’s Revolution denmother Kelly Cutrone ruled the roost with alarming aplomb – we caught her hugging most of the front row, and even smiling for pictures. Also spotted: Nina Garcia, Cory Kennedy, America’s Next Top Model judges Miss J Alexander and Nigel Barker (as well as model Elettra Rossellini-Wiedemann), and André Leon Talley (marking the first of our numerous ALT sightings). And we already shared with you our giddy Leighton Meester moment at Julie Haus. And oh yeah, Molly Sims and Jamie-Lynn Sigler were there, too.

On Sunday, we ran into ALT again (and snapped his photo), and also spotted singers Eric Benet and Brandy, as well as Bijou Philips, Ana Ortiz, and Eva Longoria at Tracy Reese. We see Elle style director Kate Lanphear everywhere, including at Tibi. NYC dandy style icon Patrick McDonald at Akiko Ogawa. Glorious Kate Lanphear again and various minor downtown art and cultural figures at Stærk, but for once, the collection itself commanded all the attention at that presentation (we will profile it shortly because it was a standout!).

Diesel attracted a huge celebrity crowd. The following are only a few of the famous faces in attendance: Daisy Lowe (with Mark Ronson), Petra Nemcova, and Juliette Lewis. Nemcova also showed up at Luca Luca, where athletes Amanda Beard and Serena Williams sat nearby in the front row, as did Ivana Trump and other socialites. Ports 1961 drew a surprisingly heady mixture of celebrities, ranging from Brandy (again!), Joy Bryant, Hong Kong actress Gigi Leung, and, um, power ballad demigod Bryan Adams. We even got a mini-concert (and free knitting kit!) at Ports: Cowboy Junkies performed live through the entire presentation of Northwestern tribal fil coupe knits and linens.

We hear that we missed Nastia Liukhin at Max Azria and all kinds of star-studded eccentricity at Betsey Johnson – shows which we sadly forfeited due to a sudden scheduling conflict – we are gutted! But we’re headed back into the throes tomorrow, when we hope we’ll have our first bonafide Lilo & Sam sighting. And of course, Zac Posen on Thursday should make for amazing celebwatching. Watch this space as we continue to (oh so subtly) keep watch on the Front Row crowds!
