Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tods ad slammed by Peta

Anti-fur campaigners are on a rampage at the moment, first lashing out at Pope Benedict XVI and now Peta have slammed Gwyneth Paltrow for promoting Tod’s.

Paltrow is currently starring in the fall 2008/09 advertising campaign for Tod’s, an Italian leather goods company which has fur-lined boots, ostrich and snake skins in its products. Known for her holistic lifestyle, Peta have lashed out at the star’s choices and included her young daughter in their attacks.

“Gwyneth Paltrow won’t be the apple of her daughter’s eye if she continues to flaunt fur,” Peta said in reference to her daughter Apple. “It’s a terrible example to set for a young child, promoting an industry that electrocutes animals, snaps their necks and skins them alive.”

When the campaign was announced, Tod’s creative director, Derek Lam said: “Gwyneth effortlessly embodies the spirit of the all American woman with timeless elegance and modern flair – the perfect representation of the Tod’s woman.”

But Tony Wardle, associate director of the vegetarian charity Viva! had his own opinion about what is feminine. “There is nothing feminine about inserting an electrode into the anus of a terrified and struggling fox and then electrocuting it. Ms Paltrow is an actress – and seemingly a particularly stupid one at that.”

Reports also say that Paltrow could be pitting her friendship with Stella McCartney in jeopardy, especially after recent reports of McCartney going “ballistic” over her bra accidentally being used in Hockley fur’s advertising campaign.

Do you think that this is just another attention grabbing ploy which includes innocent minors by Peta, or another battle between the fur promoters and the anti-fur supporters?

I wonder if Peta practise what they preach. If they’re picking on every celeb out there, are they themselves vegan, wear vegan clothes and travel on public transport or drive electric cars?

wearing and carrying animal is a cycle of life. suck it up and get on with it, peta. i don’t like to wear animal, too, but that dosen’t mean i’m going to prevent others from wearing it. to include gwyneth’s child in this was a very “..particularly stupid one.” and if mccartney doesn’t want to be friends with gwyneth anymore, then mccartney has no respect for her friends. Not everyone is a hard-core vegan.

gweneth paltrow is the definition of an ugly person – through and through. she probably thinks she is better than the animals, just like she thinks she is better than all of us. Sadly, she is just souless and shallow.

Gwenie, maybe if you goe some compassion you could learn how to act!
