News Roundup: CFDA’s New Members, Fashion Rocks, Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List Unveiled!

Developments concerning many of the fashion industry’s most anticipated annual traditions hit the newswires with unusual force this week, which means only one thing: it’s the middle of the summer and fashion tribes far and wide are bored and desperate for some indication that Spring 2009 Fashion Week is only around the corner. Fortunately, the following stories confirm that the hallowed season indeed approaches, and until then, we’ll fill our gaping void with news of the other rituals and ceremonies fashion has created. Chin up!

  • The Council of Fashion Designers of America has inducted 28 new members into its legions. Additionally, the delightful Diane Von Furstenburg has been unanimously reelected its president. Some of the new inductees also are nominated in CFDA award categories, such as: Thakoon Panichgul (nominated for the Swarovski Womenswear Award), Michael Bastian (nominated for Emerging Menswear Designer), and Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg (won the Emerging Menswear Category).  The full list can be found on WWD.
  • For those of us who appreciate the deep-rooted marriage between the fashion and music realms, take heart in the arrival of Condé Nast’s annual Fashion Rocks magazine and TV special. Justin Timberlake, shot by Craig McDean, lands the cover spot and exudes a cocktail waiter panache in an ensemble from his own line William Rast. Inside, there are features with The Kills (shot by  Annie Leibovitz), Mariah Carey and Dhani Harrison (shot by Steven Meisel), Beyoncé (shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino), Usher and the Black Eyed Peas by Norman Jean Roy, Steve Coogan by Anton Corbijn,  Mark Ronson by Terry Richardson, Keith Urban and Zooey Deschanel (shot by Martin Schoeller) , and André 3000 presents Benjamin Bixby, his debut clothing line, in a four-page spread shot by David Vasiljevic. The TV special should air in early fall, meanwhile if you are already receive Vogue, Glamour, The New Yorker, or are a subscriber to most Condé Nast publications, you should be receiving this illustrious annual publication in your mailboxes any day now!
