Patrick Dempsey signs on to be the face of Avon

Versace aren’t the only ones who think Patrick Dempsey is rather dreamy (McDreamy perhaps?), Avon have announced that they’ve on signed the Grey’s Anatomy actor to be the face of an upcoming signature fragrance.

“I felt comfortable going with Avon because my wife [Jill Dempsey, Avon’s global creative color director since 2006] has such a great relationship with them. I wasn’t going into something blindly,” said Patrick Dempsey. “I do feel that Avon is changing. It is moving forward. The face is younger, and it is revamping in a positive way. You are seeing that with the sales. It is fun to be part of that transition with Avon.”

The contract is a multiyear deal with reports that the is worth $5 – $6 million dollars, with the fragrance set to be launched in November.

“The focus on celebrities and alliances has been working and is building momentum,” said Andrea Jung, Avon’s chairman and chief executive officer. “With Patrick’s accomplishments, his broad appeal, his authenticity, combined with the momentum we are experiencing in this [fragrance] category, we have a big opportunity to really break through to a new level in the men’s segment.”

As part of the deal, Dempsey will also launch his own fragrance set for a 2009 release. He joins the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Hudson, Lauren Conrad, and Derek Jeter as Avon spokepeople.

It’s been a very busy few weeks for Avon, with the beauty brand announcing a fragrance deal with Emmanuel Ungaro and a beauty color collection with Marrimekko.
