NYFW S/S 2008: Zac Posen

It was a tale of two themes for Zac Posen’s spring summer 2008 collection in New York yesterday. The first theme featured tailored pants and skirts paired with white shirt and straw hats which harked back to the prairie days in America. Citing “Days of Heaven, the Shakers, and the wheat fields of the Great Plains” as a inspiration, it was good to see one popular American designer hadn’t gone tribal.

Then of course, he showed is crowd pleasers. The romantic, fitted gowns. As expected they tumbled out on to runway, with a cascade of ruffles trailing after the models in a variety of colours, flouncing around the shoulder, bust or skirt. The collection was given a colour injection as they gowns started bursting in colour, pleats and ruffles (pictured below).

The final pieces are more than likely expected to be seen on some of his celebrity fans seen front row, in particular Lucy Liu who has long been a fan of Posen’s. Other celebrity guests present at the show were Demi Moore, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Liya Kebede, Bijou Phillips, Serena Williams, Ivana Trump, Bette Midler, and Martha Stewart.
